Compilation transforms source code written in one language into another that can run. For TypeScript → JavaScript this is `tsc`. For Go it's `go build`. For Java it's `mvac`. The compiler catches type errors, missing imports, and syntax issues that linting misses. A compiler error immediately fails the build.
